2012 BMW M3 CRT
BMW
is producing a limited production run of the
2012 BMW M3 with the
CRT
standing for Carbon Racing Technology. As you can see this model is
based on the sedan version of the M3 and contains all of the luxury
extras like a high-end sound system and navigation but is 100 pounds
lighter in curb weight than the standard M3. This is the result of using
some advanced materials that are very light and very strong. An example
of this is found in the construction of the hood and bucket seats being
of cellular carbon honeycomb design.

Through
out the body, use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics are used
extensively. A lot of the materials used in this type of material are
recycled.
2012 BMW M3 CRT has been perfecting the use of these materials and with
new improvements to the manufacturing process mean that it could be used
more on series production cars in the near future. The use of these
material were pioneered by the i3 and i8 models that will be going into
production in the near future. Further weight reduction is from using an
extremely light weight titanium muffler. The
2012 BMW M3 CRT sound proofing on this
model is redesigned specifically for this model.
2012 BMW M3 CRT
This
2012 BMW M3 CRT
will be a limited production special edition model that will cost
130,000 Euro or around $185,000 USD and only 67 cars will be built. This
model shows that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort and amenities to
reduce weight. I would expect that
BMW would like to use this materials
on all of their models in the future to increase performance and also
fuel economy.
2012 BMW M3 CRT
The
2012 BMW M3 CRT is powered by a the same 4.4-liter V8 found in the GTS
variant of the M3 that produces 450 horsepower at 8,300 rpm and 324
pound-feet of torque at 3,750 rpm. This engine is mated to a seven-speed
M-Power double clutch transmission with Drivelogic. This model can
accelerate from stand still to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
