After a 20 year absence from DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, German Touring Car Masters) BMW Motorsports made its return and pulled off a hat trick of wins on its first year back in competition including driver’s title, manufacturer’s title and team title. To celebrate this impressive feat, BMW is producing a limited production model of the M3 called the DTM Champion Edition. It has been confirmed that only 54 of these cars will be built. Production will start at BMW’s Regensburg plant and the BMW M GmbH factory in February, 2013.

This collectable 2012 BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition is painted in Frozen Black which looks similar to the matte black color used on the M3 DTM race car. Carbon and dark chrome elements combine with matte black wheels to give this car a aggressive and unique look. This model will come standard with the ZCP Compeition Package with includes black wheels, gloss black air inlets on the hood, carbon fiber front splitters and rear spoiler. Also standard is the M Driver’s Package, M Drive, M DCT Drivelogic, navigation system, heated seats and Park Distance Control.

This model 2012 BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition is being offered at a price of 99,000 Euro ($130,000 USD) and included in the price is the chance to attend the BMW M Fascination Nordschleife driver training course. This car will be offered in several markets but it won’t be sold in the United States. Most of these cars will probably be sold in Germany. This is an ultimate collector car for BMW and DTM fans. It is great to see BMW back in one of the most important German racing series. This model is powered by a 4.4-liter (4,361 cc) V8 that produces 444 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. Top speed is electronically limited to 178 mph and zero to 60 mph comes in just 3.9 seconds.
